History
History
Aloe Vera has always been known for its mysterious beauty, its natural elegance, and its legendary healing properties. Some cultures even revered it like a deity. The earliest scriptures about the nourishing juice of the Aloe Vera plant were found in Egypt, dating back almost 6000 years. Aloe was considered as a plant whose “blood” could give beauty, health and immortality to humans. Both Cleopatra and Nefertete appreciated the beneficial juice and used it for their daily skin and beauty care.
To the Emperor of ancient China the healing thorny spines of the Aloe leaves symbolized the holy nails of the deity. For the Native Americans, the Aloe belonged to the sacred plants, being adored as deities as well. Maya Indians called the highly effective juice of this desert plant “the source of youth”.
Christopher Columbus brought potted Aloe Vera on his ships to heal the wounds of his soldiers with the plants’ juice. According to latest studies, Aloe juice contains more than 200 substances beneficial to man. Nearly all enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that a person should have with his daily food are contained in this plant especially in its leaves’ pulp.
Origin
Origin
This plant grows in southern USA, in Central and South America, Africa and the Mediterranean region, which have hot dry summers and mild winters. An Aloe plant can get along without rain for many months. It is able to store water in its fleshy leaves, and, closing its pores, it does not dry up.
If an Aloe plant is injured by being cut or having a leaf tip broken off, the plant is able to heal itself by its own active agents. Within an hour, all injuries will have closed up.
